hi everyone!
i'm a hungarien furniture design student in third year.
i would really love to study in your country for one semester, mostly in berlin or anywhere else. i would love to study either furniture, product or industrial design.
pls help me:
which scool should i try?
is there an opportunity to study for free and to get cheap accomodation?
how should i apply?

now look at all these with ID (industrial design) or PD (product design)...
studying is free, but there are some costs called "semesterbeitrag" which should not be more than 200 euro per half a year of studying...
accommodation can be cheap, range 150 euro (in a student accommodation, hard to get in due to few places) to 400 euro (for a good 1-room-appartment) per month...
the thing about applying: in germany you have to hand in portfolios and get through a test to get into these universities (of applied sciences mostly, in germany they are called FH = Fachhochschule)... i don't know about your case, because you are already a student in a foreign university, whether you'd have to go through the same procedure, or if a german uni would just take you due to your pre-knowledge... best is to contact specific universities (in list) and ask them, applying systems differ from school to school...
to see the average demanded standard of a portfolio check on this site at "mappen". these are portfolios (a "mappe" in german) which succeeded at a university...

try to find out if your university has an "office of study abroad", if yes, contact them.
There are smaller scholarships available though a European program that's called "Erasmus", try to find out about that, I thing Hungry is also in it.

which school would you recommend if i'm interrested in furniture design?
our school got a socalled exchange-programm with several universities around europe and the resr of the world,also between budapest(university of pécs) and hildesheim-the product-design section of my school is well known,specially for furniture-design,we got currently projects with interlübbke(office-furniture)or ligne roset.for further questions, please contact-

maybe you wanna have a look at the "muthesius kunsthochschule" in kiel (http://www.muthesius.de). this city is not berlin :wink: but its a very good choice if you are interested in furniture design. the head of our "bauliches design" (which means the furniture) is professor zimmer, a very experienced and active man. some weeks ago we just finished a very cool project with ikea (sweden) and the ikea donation, which even gave scholarships to study in lund/sweden. prof zimmer has also very good contacts to china and visits the country 3-4 times a year with some students from kiel at his side. just to name some activities. our graduates are well known for good, clean and highly constructive design.
iam not sure how to apply while in third year, but iam sure thats possible and the prof or secretary will help you manage the steps. just give em a call for further information.
if possible, come and visit our yearly show of student works (13.-16.07.05). you can get in contact with everyone and make yourself a picture.
do you speak german? if not, you should ask before applying if this is necessary to study over here. iam not sure.
