Drawings and Dimensions Issue | UdK

Hello guys.

I am having a little problem about preparing a portfolio for UdK Berlin. As you know their dimensions are 42x60 max. and my portfolio includes a lot of drawings. but i made them in 50x70. cropping them by hand will create a serious composition problem. I already scanned them for print. but i don't know. what you guys think about 'not' giving them the original ones?

I can understand a little german but answers in english will be most appreciated.

I'm not really familiar with UdK, but most of the schools/universities want to have the originals, so scanning would be a big no-no. So best check what if they do want to have the original drawings. If not, scanning and printing could be a valid option in terms of requirements.

Maybe give them a call and see what they say?

Unfortunately they say in their website that they don't do any kind of help. But I agree that the best thing would be writing them an e-mail.

Regards.

Do you mind showing me the part of their website where it says that? Maybe (if it's in german) you got it wrong and they meant something different, e.g. not helping with questions of creativity or something like that.

General information

Applicants are required to submit a portfolio and/or an assignment, or a conceptual piece for courses at the Colleges of Fine Art and Architecture, Media and Design, as well as some courses at the College of Performing Arts. These submitted works provide the basis for pre-selection by the admissions commission. Detailed information on the portfolios for the different academic programs (size, format etc.) are provided in the information pdfs on application on the website of each program.
There is no patent recipe for the contextual content of the portfolio or for completing the assignment.
Such works should reflect the candidate's own interests and reveal a thorough investigation of content and themes. In addition, applicants should consider in depth the course they are choosing. In this context, it is highly recommended that they attend the open days of the UdK-Rundgang, which take place each year in mid July.
As a rule, no advice on portfolios is offered at the UdK Berlin. Exceptions: the College of Fine Arts offers so-called “Pre-Colleges” each autumn. Potential applicants can bring along a portfolio for viewing to this information event. In the study programme Costume Design, as a rule a date for portfolio discussion is also offered before the application deadline. The dates are publicized in good time on the page of the relevant study course.

I understand, that they are saying, they will not offer advice. So they will not tell you wich work to present in your portfolio. Nonetheless you can call to check for the actual requirements. So just call there and ask wether scanning the items is allright or wether they want the originals.

Alright, thanks. In the context of the paragraph before, which talks about the content and themes, i think it is safe to say that they are not offering help in this particular area. Requirements like format should not fall in this category. It's not like you are asking what to put into your portfolio. So technical questions should be okay.
